When to consider seeing a pediatric occupational therapist?
Consider scheduling an appointment with a pediatric occupational therapist if your child has a noticeable delay in the development of fine motor and self-help skills, such as independence in dressing, feeding, bathing and manipulation of objects in the environment like doorknobs and light switches. Other reasons to schedule an appointment could be if your child has significant weakness in upper body support, shows difficulty using their hands or lacks coordination that is significantly different than their same aged peers. Children with sensory needs that could benefit from occupational therapy include children who cannot calm themselves, have difficulty sleeping, show a sensitivity to touch, movement or sounds or exhibit poor socialization abilities.
