Senior Care Center - Dementia Specialists

Curative's Senior Care Center, located in Waukesha, Wisconsin, provides expert care to older adults with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Staff members have received significant training in dementia care from regional and national leaders in the field.

Curative follows the guidelines of the person centered dementia care model, which encourages care centered on the whole person, rather than care that centers on an individual's disability. Staff strive to provide clients with opportunities for meaningful interaction and involvement in life activities.

Care Center staff members are knowledgeable about every client's health and personal care needs. They value and respect every client's right to provide input and make choices about how they spend their time at the Center. Curative assures a meaningful experience by focusing on what clients can do, rather than on skills they no longer have. Daily organized activities may vary for individual clients based on the progression of their dementia.

Dementia expertise includes special accommodations at mealtime, provisions for a less stimulating environment when necessary and assistance with medication management.

Our staff members share dementia care information with family caregivers and make family members aware of any observed changes in behavior or abilities.

Curative's Senior Care Center staff members follow the person centered care model introduced by Dr. Thomas Kitwood and the Bradford Dementia Group.

The model focuses on what clients can do, rather than on skills they no longer have.

Safe Return Program

Curative Senior Care Center is a  registration site for caregivers in Waukesha County who would like to sign up for the Alzheimer's Association Safe Return Program.

  • To register, individuals with Alzheimer's disease or their caregivers fill out a simple form, supply a photograph, and choose an identification product that can be worn or carried at all times. The fee is $40.
  • If a loved one wanders from home or becomes lost during an outing, caregivers call the Safe Return emergency line. Safe return maintains a database of photographs and information on registrants that is shared with law enforcement officials and others assisting with a search.
  • Safe return identification products -- such as wallet cards, jewelry, clothing labels, lapel pins or bag tags -- include instructions to call the toll-free Safe Return telephone number when an individual is found by a "Good Samaritan" while wandering. A Safe Return telephone operator can then notify family members or caregivers of the location of their loved one.
  • To register, visit the Curative Senior Care Center, 149 Wisconsin Avenue, Waukesha, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. No appointment is necessary.
